Each window can be designed to suit the current property. The optional extras on our Ultimate Rose sash model have been designed to replicate the aesthetics of a traditional sash windows meticulously.
Seahorse sash horn:
As well as our usual seamless run-through horn and no-horn option, we have developed a fully-sculptured ornate sash horn – named Seahorse for its unique design – like those used on traditional timber sashes.
Deep cill:
Timber tends to rot over time, especially at the bottom of the window where rainwater tends to collect. That is why you’ll often find that traditional timber sashes had thicker timbers at the bottom of the window. To replicate the traditional thicker cill, you can choose our optional 50mm deep cill instead of the standard 25mm (don’t worry, our uPVC deep cill doesn’t rot!).
Staff bead:
Traditional timber windows included a staff bead on the inside to hold the sashes in place. The construction of modern-day sash windows and particularly their ability to tilt inwards for easy cleaning, means there’s no longer a requirement for staff bead. To replicate this traditional internal detail our optional staff bead can be added to Ultimate Rose windows. It has been designed to be removable to allow the tilting facility for cleaning.
Chamber cover:
Original timber sash windows have a smooth channel where the sashes slide. Due to the design of modern balanced sash windows, there are recesses in the channel where the spring balance is located. The chamber cover does exactly what it says: it covers the recess and gives a smooth appearance with just a narrow slot through which the sash is connected to the gearing. The Chamber cover comes foil matched to the window colour but does restrict the top sash tilt facility.
