PRODUCT NEWS: Caldwell discontinues Egress kit

Caldwell Hardware (now owned by Yale) have informed us that they are discontinuing their sash window fire egress kits at the end of 2024.

As a result, we will no longer be offering egress kits as an option from 1st November 2024.

Ongoing projects or orders placed before this date will be honoured, subject to stock availability from Caldwell. At present, there is no direct replacement for the fire egress kits. However these kits could only be used in a small number of very specific circumstances, and were generally unpopular with homeowners.

What are fire escape regulations?

To comply with fire escape regulations, windows must provide a minimum clear opening of 450mm in width, 450mm in height, and a total area of 0.33m².

As a general rule, to meet these requirements, the minimum window size should be either 900 x 1200mm (tilting and sliding the bottom sash) or 900 x 1350mm (slide only). A minimum window width of 600mm is necessary to achieve a 450mm opening.

If you need a window to meet fire escape regulations, please mark this clearly on your quote or order. Our estimating & order processing team will run the calculations and ensure the window is compliant. If it cannot meet the requirements, we will advise you accordingly.

If you have any questions about fire escape regulations or have any other queries, please feel free to contact our team at trade@roseview.co.uk
