Georgian Conservation
After years of neglect, Millwater Cottage was in desperate need of some care and attention. Built in around 1752, this pretty Georgian mill house sits in a beautiful location next to a river, mill pond and old mill. Flanked by listed properties and sitting firmly within a conservation area, renovation works had to be sensitive both to the property and the area’s heritage.
Initially the developer, Claire Totman, was set to replace the existing mismatched windows with timber sashes. In Claire’s own words, “I was about to place my order for timber sash windows. Then I came across Roseview Windows and I was absolutely blown away.”
The project uses Heritage Rose sash windows in pure white, replicating a traditional gloss paint finish. The single, vertical astragal bars match the proportions of the windows, and to provide extra insulation against noise from the nearby river and mill channels, acoustic glazing was used.
The result is a set of energy efficient, acoustically insulated single and bay sash windows, perfectly suited to the period property.
The Developer, Claire Totman has since published a blog post about this installation.
